I discovered a great video on YouTube by Susan Ireland, author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to the Flawless RESUME. In this movie, Susan discusses why you need an objective on the leading of your resume. I agree that it’s important for you to have a wonderful one (see my post 7 Tips For a Great Resume). There are several reasons:
1. It lets the reader know what you want, instead of implying that you need help finding a spot. It’s a weak approach that won’t serve you well anywhere in the process, including salary negotiations.
2. It tells the reader which department head needs to have your resume, so that it gets to the appropriate place. (Are you interested in clinical sales, medical diagnostics sales, pathology sales, imaging sales, biotech sales, cellular/molecular products revenue, hospital equipment sales, clinical equipment sales, surgical supply sales, pathology device sales, or clinical revenue?)
THREE. It tells the reader what level of responsibility you’d like to hold in your next career opportunity.
4. It tells the reader how to interpret the rest of your information. It’s the supporting piece for your marketing document.

Thanks, Susan!

If you are a sales professional or want to become one, or if you are looking for a new sales job, you will face one of the toughest interview processes of any job seeker.
